Kavli Energy NanoScience Institute

The Kavli Energy NanoScience Institute (ENSI) at UC Berkeley, partnered with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, brings together researchers in materials science, physics, engineering and biology to study how nature manages energy at the nanoscale, with the aim of improving existing energy technologies and developing new ones.

The institute supports early-career researchers through the Heising-Simons Junior Fellowship, Kavli ENSI and Philomathia graduate student fellowships, and the Philomathia Discovery Fund for high-promise research projects. It also runs a Discovery Research Hub, international exchange programs, student thesis prizes, and seminars, lectures, workshops and retreats.
