Innovation & Entrepreneurship

Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) at UC Berkeley, led by the campus Chief Innovation & Entrepreneurship Officer, describes itself as an ecosystem of people, places and programs dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs, commercializing research and advancing startups for the public good. It organizes campus resources by startup stage and points founders to BEGIN to browse campus resources and to IPIRA to commercialize lab research.

IPIRA reports to the Chief Innovation and Entrepreneurship Officer. The Life Sciences Entrepreneurship Center was launched in coordination with the office; its executive director, Darren Cooke, was named interim Chief Innovation and Entrepreneurship Officer in July 2024.
