California Institute for Energy and Environment

The California Institute for Energy and Environment (CIEE) is a UC Berkeley institute built on three pillars: research, public service and education. It conducts energy and climate research, administers energy and climate programs for California state agencies including the CPUC, CNRA and CEC, and mentors the next generation of energy leaders.

Since July 2018, CIEE has operated within the CITRIS and the Banatao Institute ecosystem, drawing on the CITRIS Climate initiative. Its programs include the Building Efficiency for a Sustainable Tomorrow (BEST) Center, Cool Climate carbon accounting tools, the Behavior, Energy & Climate Change (BECC) Conference it co-founded, and the Art Rosenfeld Award for graduate students in energy efficiency.
