Berkeley Center for Green Chemistry
The Berkeley Center for Green Chemistry (BCGC) works toward the design and use of inherently safer chemicals and materials. It aims to build green chemistry principles into science, markets and public policy.
BCGC funds and guides research on new chemical processes and materials, toxicity testing, exposure analysis and alternatives assessment. It teaches courses such as Greener Solutions, which give student teams real materials challenges from industry, government and nonprofit partners. It also offers technical advice to businesses and runs the Green Materials Innovation Challenge. The center is supported by the College of Chemistry, School of Public Health, College of Engineering and Haas School of Business.
